[opensuse-marketing] making something for openSUSE 12

Hello, You may know there is an endless discussion on -project about the openSUSE version name. When go from 11.x to 12, and why? Kde; Gnome... I think all this is crap. No change in Gnome nor Kde wil impact *all* our users. I got an idea. May be *we have to create the event*. We have to think from now on how we can make the world shine for openSUSE 12!! (we have more than a year to complete the goal). This looks like a very interesting goal for the marketting team, don't you think? jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

We can celebrate openSUSE 12 as the earth crust moves and all humandkind landmarks are going down to the abyss at the end of the days of the Mayan calendar in 2012. :P P.S. Not ironic, just something to relieve the intense of the last few weeks on the list. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

With no results at all. We should be very happy having those desktops options in one distro package pretty much functional.None of them have all the solutions for the whole users needs.

That is mostly for sure.

I really think it would be very good starting point. Need to take lovely care since now.

We ara openSUSE, without regards what projects we are inclined for. So make this distro (one of the oldest, vailable, secure, easy, stable and beautiful one ) shine again as number one option for all kind of users. Heil, yeah !!!

Or we move over to 11.5 for the next release, then 12.1 13.1, 13.2 etc, following the years. Should cover us for the rest of this century and take away the discussion ;-) It's btw a good thing to bring up here, the version numbers are mostly marketing and we should at least have a good advice/story for the rest of the community to decide upon. But repeating the discussion on the ML from last year isn't particularly useful either - maybe something to discuss at the marketing meeting? Put it on the agenda and while you're at it, add your name ;-)
This looks like a very interesting goal for the marketting team, don't you think?

the name is secondary in this respect. We need an impressive next openSUSE release. The marketing team do a great job, make this (next+1) release a must - maybe something to discuss at the marketing meeting? I'm very bad as IRC and can't attend most of the time, but I openned an openfate entry for this. https://features.opensuse.org/311014 jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

I don't think so. We have plenty of time to do launch party but we have to think ahead is we want to do amazing things and don't have a 11.5 without more interest than 11.4 have... when I see the length of the thread about the distro name, I'm sure we have plenty of time to think more (and may be speak less sometime) jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://pizzanetti.fr -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

Not really the feature as one that openFATE was created for, but as interface was changed there is no release version information. Having meta feature that will collect ideas for 12.0 is good idea. Bad about it is that only one discussion participant took time to find existing feature and list it as a link, not reiterating what was discussed somewhere else. We can't discuss 20 other features in this one. Be aware that any feature in openFATE including this one (311014) can be rejected if it is highly unlikely that it will be ever implemented. Keep discussion focused on ideas that have project that is already running and can have publishable results withing a year. Search openFATE, there is bunch of features that are low hanging fruits, but they will not make in 11.4, look for people that can implement them. Take feature handling in your hands and be active. Features that have no running development behind, should not be listed. For instance, creating rescue system. The old was abandoned because there is no resources to keep it alive, no one picked up, so what is the chance to see that happen by end of next year? Very small. Just leaving wish written in openFATE will not make it happen. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org
