[opensuse-marketing] Help in one click

Hello, i recently tried Sidux ourea Kde lite live cd (from Debian sid) and it has an awsome idea to reach the help in one click : on the desktop is a shortcut giving direct access to their Irc channel. Isn't this a good idea ? This could easily be implemented in opensuse nearby the Help shortcut (sidux also has a man shortcut which is almost the same). i thought this could be pretty helpful for beginners, and very convenient for others ;=) Fabrice -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

I've seen this in other distributions too. It has been discussed in the past. The people in IRC (that includes me), find that it's too risky to just send people to the channel with a "help"-button - without them having any clue what's going on - i.e. simple netiquette, understanding that the people on irc are volunteers using their spare time to help people. Instead the "Online help" desktop icon - which opens help.opensuse.org - was created. It has links for IRC among other things - and of course the irc- clients are preconfigured to join #opensuse @ freenode. So if someone needs help, it ain't hard to find. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

IRC is also blocked in many corporate settings, so we would be exposing users to policy violations at their place of employment. -- M.
