[opensuse-marketing] openSUSE @ FOSDEM 2009
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I just announced the dates + call for devrooms/stands for FOSDEM 2009: http://fosdem.org/2009/node/153 (don't be too confused, I'm one of the organizers of the event, so I'm constantly switching hats here ;)) FYI: FOSDEM takes place 7+8 February 2009 in Brussels (Belgium) and is the largest FOSS developer conference in Europe, with around 6000 visitors (almost all of them developers/contributors) and over 240 talks, presentations, sessions held during that weekend. Entrance is free to everyone. And it's only for FOSS projects. Previous years we had a so-called "developer room" as well as a stand at FOSDEM, in order to present current developments to our own community as well as to active contributors of other projects. There are 15 devrooms in total, and last year we had openSUSE, Fedora, CentOS, Debian, Mozilla, KDE, GNOME, and many, many others. A "developer room" is just that: a room (capacity ranging from 50 to 200 seats), a video projector, wifi internet connection, and we define our own schedule of talks/sessions/whatever (no binge drinking, that's already covered by the FOSDEM beer event on Friday evening ;)), for free. I suppose Martin and/or Zonker will take care of sending a devroom request (see URL above) before the deadline to.. err.. me ;) (switching hats again). We should really start organizing it now: - - manning the openSUSE stand during the weekend (as said, huge crowd there, mostly very technical) - - maybe organize (wiki page?) who (from our community) will go there, possibly coordinate a bit for hotel/travel/..., - - think of topics that might be of interest, although I'm sure we'll also be able to collect lots of proposals from Novell employees - - try to get more non-Novell community contributors to make presentations there - - spread the word to our community, a *lot* ! (= tell them that we'll have a devroom at FOSDEM 2009, great place and unique occasion to meet, etc...) - - maybe organize a session or two with people from other distros/projects ? Note that first, a devroom+stand request has to be sent (Martin/Zonker?). We (FOSDEM) will collect them until 2008-11-22. Then we (FOSDEM) will pick which projects get a devroom and confirm before 2008-11-30. It only makes sense to start spreading the word once we (openSUSE) receive the confirmation. But we should already prepare, because there won't be much time after that. NB: note that I don't send this to make noise about FOSDEM itself, we don't really need it, it will be packed anyway. It's really about openSUSE at FOSDEM ;) cheers - -- -o) Pascal Bleser <pascal.bleser@opensuse.org> /\\ http://opensuse.org -- I took the green pill _\_v FOSDEM::7+8 Feb 2009, Brussels, http://fosdem.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.5 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFJEiJPr3NMWliFcXcRAgUJAJ93d+UZ6ofBWNOH2uEVkeec1BvXcQCfStkx ChBo7tonb2HnhSJ3xxekK1g= =Bjt5 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

done

good idea, as soon we have been accepted. I can do it, i have to do the FOSDEM page anyway.
- think of topics that might be of interest, although I'm sure we'll also be able to collect lots of proposals from Novell employees
I already started last week an internal call. This is the most important part for me. We are doing it for the community, so please stand up and say what you want.
- try to get more non-Novell community contributors to make presentations there
+1 ... especially because the last years this was very good
- spread the word to our community, a *lot* ! (= tell them that we'll have a devroom at FOSDEM 2009, great place and unique occasion to meet, etc...) - maybe organize a session or two with people from other distros/projects ?
+1, we just need to find a project for that ... -- with kind regards, Martin Lasarsch, Core Services SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5 90409 Nürnberg GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) martin.lasarsch@suse.de - http://www.opensuse.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-marketing+help@opensuse.org

RPM? I think we ought to plan an "RPMConf" at FOSDEM. See if we can wrangle a few more Fedora + SUSE folks together to work on RPM. (And maybe Mandriva and any other RPM-based projects...)
