The organization team is excited to announce that the registration for the openSUSE Conference, from September 11 to 14 in Nürnberg, is now open. Head over to our registration form and register to help us plan for a great event! http://bit.ly/r2mxGN Preparations Two months from now the openSUSE and SUSE Labs Conference will kick off in Nuremberg, Germany. That means, as flights don’t get cheaper, you have to start planning your days off, your trip, hotel and send in a talk while the CfP is still open! Hotel The openSUSE conference team has made a list of hotels where you can book your stay for the duration of the conference. http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Conference_hotels It is recommended to use these hotels as they will not only have fellow geekos in them but are also for special conference prices and not too far from our location, Zentrifuge. Financial travel support For some of you, the trip to Nuremberg is financially not easy. You might be a student, or have to fly in all the way from India. We know that very well and you can count on an announcement of the what and how of travel subsidy soon. We will do everything we can to ensure our community members from far away or on low budget are also able to come and join us! Visa Another important thing to think of in time is access to Europe/Germany. We have a standard invitation letter you can get from us on request. For that, send a mail with some personal details (who you are, what you do for openSUSE, what you will do at the conf, that stuff) to opensuse-conference(a)opensuse.org and the team will send you one. Registration Registering makes sure there’s a badge for you at the conference, you won’t have to wait in line for us to create one for you on the spot. It’ll also make sure you are able to go on the wifi and we have a place for you at the party. And of course it allows us to plan better so it matters a lot that you register as soon as possible if you intend to come! http://bit.ly/r2mxGN Please note that for the registration, you don’t have to create an account. Last but not least, there is an option between two different tickets. Entrance is free for all but those who want to support the conference and can afford it can buy a professional ticket. [opensuse-marketing] oSC conference deadline extended, we want more interactivity!!!

Hi all, Let me start with the important part: =========== We want you to THINK MORE ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR WORK for this openSUSE conference. What do YOU want to accomplish? What does YOUR team need to talk about? What features should be finished? What decisions should be made? Use the conference for that! PLEASE SEND IN BoF PROPOSALS for oSC! They take no preparation and barely any work as 'leader' - it's just an informal get-together. Yes, you can do that over dinner too, but - nobody takes notes, lots of beer... A BoF is NOT any more formal than a dinner meet but it does ensure the participants are focussed on the discussion, not the food, and sober ;-) Sending in a BoF proposal ensures you get a room for 40 minutes with no strings attached. And you never know who suddenly shows up and happens to be willing and able to take on some work! Aside from BoF's, we love more workshops and hack sessions. How about a hack session to fix up one or two modules in YaST. Or fix some kernel bugs. Or get a bunch of perl updates packaged. Or, to get more people working on your stuff, a workshop "hacking on YaST". A workshop "porting your app from sysv to systemd"... Register your session here: http://bit.ly/nsycEP ============ About the oSC deadline: Last monday the deadline for the oSC CfP was extended. We had a fair number of submissions already but the "interactive" proportion of sessions wasn't what we hoped. I'm sure that's partially due to lack of clarity about what we want, so let me try to explain a bit here too. We want to get more 'work done' at oSC. And focus more strongly on openSUSE. The last conference had many non-openSUSE people and the results were great - but for openSUSE it wasn't what it could've been. Now many of us get together only once a year at the conf and we could do more than listen to talks, have dinner and drink beer. That's why we want more BoF sessions (essentially team meetings), workshops (eg teach to package better, or test, or ...) and hack sessions (get together and do work). Each of these sessions we'll try to explain more. The BoF was explained a few weeks ago [1] and today the workshop will get some attention [2]. Next week I hope to get something out on how to efficiently do a hack session. Look at this: http://www.april.org/catalogue_libre it's a french brochure that do not advertise a distro but free applications it's sold at *0.5€* each (on paper, color), what I find extremely cheap. At first glance it seems to me specially fitted for ubuntu, (I don't know half of the applications). But it's a exemple of what we could do in several languages. This one is LaTeX, so may be not that easy to edit :-(), but I have also an other one, similar, on scribus.
