Hello!
Today we started a openSUSE Build Service Webclient online survey.
We want to get more informations about the OBS-Webclient users, the
used hard and software and (potential) use cases.
If you use, used or want to use the OBS, please participate on the
survey and help us to make a solid Webclient 2.

Hello,
if someone is bored please look over the English and <your language> Wikipedia
articles about openSUSE for obviously wrong or missing stuff, like [1] saying
that 5 CDs are required and linking to the old forums and 10.1 reviews. :-)
Bye,
Steve

Hello Community
I get several requests such as attached, till now I have been
encouraging these, is there any policy regarding it or I can go ahead
and let them do openSUSE promotion if it is of appropriate standard.
"More" is a giant shopping mall here, one of the largest chain of
malls in India.
http://retailnu.wordpress.com/2007/11/28/aditya-birla-group-plans-1000-%E2%…
Although the permission asked is for putting up posters at only one of
those 1000 proposed Malls, but wouldn't it be fantastic if they
promoted openSUSE in all of their malls? :)
Kind regards
Jigish

I think we are a little bit confused and this issue is related to the
thread in marketing ML.
http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opensuse-marketing/2008-10/msg00005.html
There are two teams for translation now, Translation team and
Localization team.
*Translation* team handles mainly the translation of Wiki and is
discussing issues on 'opensuse-*wiki* ML'. On the other hand,
*Localization* team handles mainly the translation of applications and
discussing issues on 'opensuse-*translation* ML'.
I think that's why we are confused.
Additionally, Translation team recognize that translating the new
frontpage (http://www.opensuse.org) to other languages is not their
task, because the frontpage is outside of the Wiki and they have no
privilege to translate it by themselves.
In addition to the frontpage and the 'Get It!' page
(http://software.opensuse.org/), there are many pages to be translated
outside of the Wiki, such as news.opensuse.org, users.opensuse.org,
build.opensuse.org...
Zonker, just now in Japan, and I were talking about this issue last
week. I think we'd better decide it first, which ML is suitable for
discussing this issue. Is the translation ML suitable for that ?
Best,

Hi all,
Here's a draft I'd like to put out on Oct. 6th (today or tomorrow,
depending on your time zone...)
Any comments, suggestions, additions? (Note, I'll add the remainder of
the links later...)
Best,
Zonker
Third anniversary of openSUSE Project's first release
Just three years ago today, the openSUSE Project <a
href="http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-announce/2005-10/msg00002.html">announced
its first release</a>.
Andreas Jaeger sent the word out to the opensuse-announce list on
October 6, 2005, announcing the release of SUSE Linux 10.0:
<blockquote>I'm glad to announce the final version (aka the
Goldmaster) of SUSE Linux 10.0. Developing 10.0 as part of the
openSUSE project with an open bugzilla was a new and great experience.
Thanks a lot to everybody that contributed in testing, reporting and
fixing bugs, discussions etc.</blockquote>
The 10.0 release featured the latest and greatest free and open source
software: the 2.6.13 Linux kernel, Firefox 1.0.6, GNOME 2.12,
OpenOffice.org 1.9, and <a
href="http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=suse"much
more</a>.
The project, which was announced at LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco
in August of 2005, has achieved a lot in just three years:
* The formation of the openSUSE Board
* Five stable releases in three years (10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 11.0)
* Introduction and complete re-write of Zypper/libzypp for better
package management
* More than 200 members approved since the start of the project
* Release of the openSUSE Build Service 1.0, which allows complete and
transparent participation in building openSUSE Linux
* First openSUSE Board elections begun
* Launch of News.opensuse.org
* Creation of the lizards.opensuse.org portal
* Launch of unified English-language openSUSE Forums
The openSUSE Project has grown a lot since the first release in 2005,
and the future is looking bright!

Hi folks!
What about translating the Get It page (http://software.opensuse.org/)
which is the page that most users will 'download' openSUSE, so its
propably one of the most visiteds..

Luiz Fernando

Hi all,
We discussed improving the How to Participate page during the IRC
meeting today. I just wanted to throw this out to the list as a
discussion starter.
The page I'm referring to is here:
http://en.opensuse.org/How_to_Participate
The page is a good start, but we need to make it more friendly, and
easier to get information from more quickly.
Also -- I see that the page is only available in five languages --
this is something else we need to work on, as we definitely want to
have the page text available in more languages.
Some of the ideas discussed during the meeting:
* Videos
* Storyboards
* Improving the text on the page
Other thoughts?
Best,
Zonker
