I installed a fresh plain MicroOS Container Host and followed the instructions
from the blog: works out of the box without any problems.

That 'nft' doesn't show anything doesn't surprise me, openSUSE uses "iptables".
If you switched that somehow and it doesn't show anything, it's no wonder that
it does not work: where are the podman rules?

Either your container is not running (podman ps?), your you still have network
problems. But the description itself is correct and still works.
