Kiwi sets LOADER_TYPE="grub2-efi" for this. When booting the image without EFI though, this is not changed by anything and so update-bootloader only manages the x86_64-efi target of grub2. As the grub.cfg file is in the same location, there aren't any immediate issues, but it means that grub is never updated in those deployments. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

The error reported in comment #4 This is a dracut bug, fixed upstream (https://github.com/dracutdevs/dracut/pull/1803) by checking that /etc/machine-id is not empty during the installation and on the SUSE branch (https://github.com/openSUSE/dracut/pull/185) using a more conservative way (for now), removing all unnecessary default paths. 2. The error reported in comment #0 This is a kiwi bug, kiwi parses the main dracut script to decide the name of the initrd image that will be created, and this part of the code recently changed in dracut, so it's failing. https://github.com/OSInside/kiwi/blob/0906a06f0f1c79a14677d0a80b37877d11297….
