[opensuse-kernel] Sound suddenly disappeared
I run openSUSE 11.4. The system worked well for two years since 11.2. I did not change anything in the settings, just usual system updates. I have the sound disappeared from the system. After boot there is no sound at all If to restart the sound system via Yast, the sound appears in one application, but after closing that app there is again no sound at all, in any application, including the same. I tried this with Mplayer, Kaffeine, Hydrogen, Savage 2. Even copying /dev/random to /dev/dsp does not work. lsoff does not indicate any sound devices to be occupied. I have standard Asus P5B motherboard with Intel HDA sound. Once I received a messagebox "error loading sound drived" but did not receve such messages again. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org

Ilya, are you a sound group member? Pete -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org

Yes. And now it seems the problem is localized with one video file. When trying to play it with kaffeine or mplayer, there is no sound. And after quitting there is no sound in any other application, sometimes I hear a fragment from this file's audio of less than 1 sec when trying to get sound in other applications. The file can be played well with totem though. If to restart sound system via Yast after that, sound appears only in one application, but then no sound in any application. Reboot does not help, only power-offing the computer completely. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org
