[opensuse-kernel] Problem trying to boot OpenSuse 11.3 x86_64 AMD64 DVD ISO on EFI BIOS in a VM
Hello I am trying to boot Open Suse 11.3 x86_64 DVD ISO on OVMF based EFI BIOS created for a Qemu VM. I am using qemu-kvm-0.13.0 for the purpose. My host is Ubuntu 10.04. The BIOS boots fine into the EFI Shell (and even executes the Elilo boot loader). The FAT partition also seems to have the kernel and initrd images. The loader also loads the kernel and initrd images and calls ExitBootServices call of the EFI BIOS. Soon after that my kernel reboots the VM and I am back to square one. Has this issue been reproducible? Are there any pointers I can use to debug the issue further? I tried to develop my own elilo boot loader to debug the issue further, but I am facing problem in modifying the ISO image to put the new boot loader in the ISO image to boot from it. When I mount the ISO image, I can see a file called boot/x86_64/efi which is a boot sector image. I mount that as vfat and it does show me the boot partition contents. If I add anything to that partition, and then re-build the ISO using mkisofs, the resulting ISO is not detected to have a FAT partition by the EFI BIOS anymore. I guess I need to build the ISO image specially? Are there any instructions that I can follow to do that?
