What is the current status of kernel-pv?
We should expect proposals to eventually fold kernel-pv into kernel default soon, if not done already.
Is it intended to be a drop-in replacement for Xen DomU guests?
Its intended to replace the xen flavor very long term, xen flavor should be used only as last resort, we'll be phasing that out very slowly through time.
My initial tests at 3rd party providers' Guests (e.g. Linode), fail to boot. That's with no changes to the guest.
Linode seems to be a cloud hosting provider, what hypervisor they use is then not up to you, as such its not clear that what you are aiming here for might be a Xen DomU guest, or are you sure they use Xen for their hypervisor ?
Is it ready?
The goal with pv flavor was to use pvops for Xen based solutions. The major requirements to move to pvops based Linux Xen solution should now be addressed. There may be kinks, and we want to learn about issues folks have now with this.
Are there changes required in the guest?
Linux is a moving target and upstream has changed significantly recenlty to help with pvops, for the best experience we expect you to need to use a later kernel version, the more recent the better, and this will only improve over time.
Are there specific host/guest version requirements for Xen, etc?
I personally work with the latest and greatest toolstack / Xen hypervisor, that is I work upstream. I am not sure what the latest requirements are but I suspect openseuse should have those requirments up to par, Juergen, would you happen to know?
