How does Windows boot supporting all the different hardware it does without a ramdisk, and why does linux need one? One reason is that Windows filesystem can flag a file "system", which means "do not move it". Don't touch it. Don't relocate it.
Doesn't the immutable bit on linux accomplish much the same?
So linux could do the same thing?
Huh, I forgot about this post, sorry. No, I don't think so. An immutable file could still be moved around on the disk surface. Just not changed. A file with an immutable attribute can not be: Modified Deleted Renamed No soft or hard link created by anyone including root user.
