There are really tough cases. Suppose you have / on a RAID volume in degraded state. Do we really want that case in the boot loader?
1) what is degraded? A bad mirror on a RAID10 that's being rebuilt? That's hardly a cause for concern.
I have worse cases for you. / can be on LVM. The assumption that a block cannot move without FS action is just not right. Regards Oliver
