--- Um, you realize symlinks don't work in many cases where suse uses them, right? Always wonderful, the symlinks on root that point to an unmounted /usr partition. Not too many things work in that scenario, including symlinks for libraries used by 'mount' to mount /usr (a real consequence of suse's symlinks).
