Hi: I a remote machine, after "upgrading" it from Centos 5 to openSUSE 12.1 with kernel 3.4.1 from kernel:Stable, my logs are beign flooded with [Firmware Bug]: APEI: Invalid bit width + offset in GAR [0xbf7c4ba0/32/0/1/0] (Needless to say, I already updated the system's BIOS) thousands of times.. I couldnt care less about this APEI thing but I cannot find the right kernel parameter/ BIOS option to get it to stop flooding the system log. This has been working well for years, but since about 2..3 months, it fails. The symptom is that s2disk halts after printing this message: Snapshotting system there is no disk activity, nothing. I have to power cycle. What I have done is hack the suspend_system() function in suspend.c, adding messages that get printed to the screen so that I can see where it gets stuck. I installed openSUSE 12.2 Beta 2 recently and my wifi card has problems with connecting to AP with WPA2. After few seconds connection was disconnected and nm asked me again for password. [opensuse-kernel] kernel installation messages

When I install a new kernel, either directly with zypper or via zypper up or zypper dup, sometimes associated messages from installaton and subsequent initrd generation take only about 18 screen lines. Other times, output is drastically swelled by what looks like a full path list of every kernel module, making total message output more than a full screen's worth. Am I the only one to notice or wonder why? [opensuse-kernel] Can RTL8139 be supported by any of the latest versions of openSUSE?

Greetings, http://en.opensuse.org/HCL%3aNetwork_%28Wired%29 According to the above link openSUSE 11.3 doesn't support the hardware RTL8139. So, if I install *kernel-3.0* on this version of openSUSE, will that help in getting the `RTL8139` detected? I don't wish to use the old `openSUSE 10.3` for this hardware. While I questioned whether doing this (for a slim boot time benefit this might provide) is really the right thing already in the past, bug 766284 points out another reason why this is a bad idea. Can this be reverted (in master and 12.2 at least)? Alternatively we would have to add Olaf's patch attached to that bug in one form or another (using a Hyper-V specific command line option to suppress the behavior added by the patch is certainly going to be odd)... I've disabled LocalTalk drivers on i386-default. I've disabled many drivers that can only be used on embedded hardware. While I don't doubt that there are users out there playing with Linux on embedded hardware - I do doubt that they're using an openSUSE-built kernel RPM. The disabled modules include voltage regulators, multifunction devices that are typically found on SoCs, IIO sensor drivers, SPI drivers, and drivers only used on Intel Medfield or Moorestown. I'd like to try to clear out as many of the drivers we're building that are inappropriate for desktop, server, or notebook systems. That includes drivers that are only used for embedded devices and hardware that is so ancient that nobody is likely to be using it anymore. The former is pretty easy but the latter gets tricky. The goal is to save on users' disk space, download bandwidth, and build resources. DECNet and ARCnet were rare already in my former life as a sysadmin. That was over 10 years ago.
