Quick update: unfortunately, this issue hasn't yet been fixed. Citing the author: "This patch is good for that point in the patch series, but I'm not sure it works against upstream in all cases. I need to spend some time evaluating it." (See comment #23 for the complete thread.) So, it will eventually get fixed but it may take some more time.
