I had tried without loading nvidia modules (had to remove them both from
/lib/modules and the initrd).  Did not observe issues during that time, but was
mostly at home without dual monitor/dock.

I recently updated to Kernel 5.8.2, which also compiled new nvidia modules. 
Despite bumblebee disabled, it loaded nvidia-drm, I think from the framebuffer
driver(?), so at the moment I run with them loaded (450.66).  No hang so far
either.

I start wondering if it was/is a hardware issue of the dock, as currently I
also see dis/reconnects of the USB hub in the dock (the 2nd monitor is
connected to the dock, too)

I will continue to watch, and if it happens again try to reproduce it
with/without nvidia loaded, but for now you can probably close this, as I'm not
really able to deliver more/new information if I can't trigger the problem :o
I'll re-open it if I find out more....
