Strange. I was able to mount the bootable USB flash disk at last. Changing directory to x86_64, I found there the file kmod-28-2... .rpm. Running (as root) zypper install kmod within that directory yields: (many complaints about non-accessible repositories)... 'kmod' is already installed. Package 'kmod' is not available in your repositories. Cannot reinstall ... Resolving package dependencies. Nothing to do. Nevertheless, when I mount the usb stick with the kernel rpm, running zypper install kernel-default-5.16.... rpm still yields the conflict with missing 'kmod-zstd'. It seems to me that 'zstd' is not provided by the 'kmod'.
