In kernel 5.18 i8k is disabled in dell_smm_hwmon. So it is not possible to control dell fans via userspace anymore. There was a software called kfani8k for KDE3. This software controlled the fans so that it is possible to listen to music while working with the laptop. I modified this to qfani8k and it used the module i8k, which was integrated into dell_smm_hwmon years ago. Yesterday I compiled the newest dell_smm_hwmon (I call it now i8kc) on kernel 5.18 with i8k enabled and it still works. This combination of kernel module and userspace software worked for more than 10 years. On old 32bit machines and Dell E6440. It would be nice, if it could be activated again. Else I have to compile the module every time the kernel changes. Or I find a trick to control fans via hwmon in userspace. The problem is, that pwm1 can only be accessed as root. Thank you.
