"untenable as before" means the behavior just like with Leap 15.4 kernel?
And Leap 15.3 live image works as expected?  If so, you can verify the kernel
on the live image and on your test system; if both are with the same kernel but
show the different behavior, the cause is rather in the user-space, not the
kernel itself.
