[opensuse-kde] Kmail is deleteing old messages..
When did this start? Because if I can't find a "switch" or command or something to turn this off, I am going to have to look into a new mail program. I keep old messages which have solutions in them for various problems that seem to come up over and over. Saving these messages allows me to help others ... I don't want to have to put these messages into some other item, I want to keep them in my email program. How do I turn off this "feature"? I cant even find a setting that tells the email program to delete certain messages because they are aged. How do I turn off this "feature"? I cant even find a setting that tells the email program to delete certain messages because they are aged. TIA Hi, for me kmail works well (kde-4.1.3, kmail-1.10.3) so try this: right click on your mail folder and you should see something about "expiry"[1], then uncheck all checkbox. I dont' think that they are checked by default... You need to check all your folder.
[1] In italian is "effettua scadenza", just before "proprietà" (properties) so I don't know exactly how is translated in english.. HTH. Don't know, how it has been turned on. But if it is kmail that's deleteing your mails you can find the "Expire..." menu entry in the folders context menu. Another way to achieve the automatic deletion of old mail is to configure your IMAP server - only if you are using IMAP of course - to expire messages. But it is unlikely that you have turned this on by accident ;-) Herbert -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I guess I was somewhat unclear. I don't want any of the messages deleted. ( I'll handle that.) But Kmail is doing it. the only choice I have for expiring messages is to give it a number of days.. but I don't want it set at all. Isn't there a program wide place to tell Kmail I want it to leave those messages and to leave them readable ! What it does now is decide what emails are too old, I guess that's how it chooses them, if I try to open one it just says there is nothing there . I need to be able to read and even forward those old emails. IS there one place it would be turned on? I am so frustrated w/ this problem I really am thinking about finding a new program. I have used Kmail for at least 5 years and it's only been doing this since version 1.9.9 TIA -- j "Its like a song I can hear playing right in my ear That I cant sing I cant help listening" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

It is common in many programs, but it doesn't appear intuitive without checking a logic. You don't want messages to expire instantly, so 0 time is not used for any real need. BTW, expire can be unchecked and then it will not be applied. If checked, one can choose action, delete or move meesages to another folder. I use second to move all old messages to archive folder. That helps to open current folder faster. -- Regards, Rajko -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
