Odd behaviour with crtl-taste in KDE 3.5.0

Hi, I have encountered an odd phenomena with KDE 3.5.and SL 9.3 Pro. When I press crtl-taste in Konqueror (and maybe in KMail, too), several yellow boxes with one digit or alphabet in each appear. When I press the crtl once again, these boxes disappear. I have absolutely no idea what these boxes are supposed to mean. The only clue is, that these boxes seem to be related to the URLs in the active window... Any ideas? Can someone reproduce this behaviour? Thanks in advance! Kimmo

Note sure what control-taste is, but the behavior happens for me by simple hitting the control key (without hitting anything else).

This is funny! I am using 3.5 release candidate ? (maybe 1?) and the same thing happens. I just tried it. When I press Ctrl, I get two boxes (like tool tips). One has an E and the other a K. These only appear when a window is selected, for example, they do not appear while I was composing this email. Looks like someone left some debug functionality in KDE? Of course, I meant the control (crtl) key. Sorry. Kimmo

It's called 'Access Keys'. You press the control key and the letters appear on each link. Then you can press one of the letters or numbers on the links to go to that link. It's an accessibility feature, for people with limited mobility. I think if the web site specifies which access keys to use, it uses them, otherwise it assigns its own. James, thanks for your reply. Well, this feature seems to be very practical indeed. And not only for people wiht limited mobility, but also for those who dislike mouse ;-) Kind regards, Kimmo

For an example, try going to www.kde.org and pressing control, followed by 0 (zero). It'll take you to a page showing the access keys defined by the page author for the kde website. All the other access keys on the page where assigned by konqueror. -- Cheers James Ots www.jamesots.com

This is a (old) 3.4 feature. On html pages that supports you get accelator keys. I like it. Try it out on e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page You get a whole bunch. It's handy in comments on linuxtoday.com Have fun with it. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
