[opensuse-kde] kaddressbook / encoding problem
Hello everyone, I got a problem copying contacts from one addressbook to another. The german umlauts are lost in this process, regardless if I use the clipboard or explicitly save an contact as vcf and import it in the other addressbook. I am running openSUSE 10.2, KDE 3.5.8. It seems to work ok with both a 10.3 test installation and with a Debian based installation (this one on another machine). Other infos:
env | grep -i lang LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
uname -rv 2.6.18.8-0.7-default #1 SMP Tue Oct 2 17:21:08 UTC 2007
Does anyone have a hint for me? Regards, Andreas --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
Quite strange, I did some experiments with contacts... So try export as some ical file and try rung file export.ical Open it using kate or some similar "smart" program and look if you see correct imlauf. It will be fine if you look what encoding kate guessed. Dne Thursday 24 January 2008 21:18:10 Andreas Schallenberg napsal(a):

How do I export it as an ical file? The export menu offers me Bookmark, CSV, vCard (2.1 and 3.0), LDIF and export to mobile phone.

I made that test with an vCard export. The file seems to be written as utf-8 but guessed as iso8859-15. When I change the encoding to utf-8 in kate it is displayed correctly (and kate seems to remember that). However, kaddressbook still seems to assume some iso-encoding. The charset handling was broken up to 3.5.8. I fixed that and it should work in 3.5.9 See https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98790 or also the discussion http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-pim&m=119953757709785&w=2 -- Best regards/Schöne Grüße Martin () ascii ribbon campaign - against html mail /\ - against microsoft attachments --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I can confirm, that exporting as vCard and importing into a second addressbook works now. Using the clipboard still screws up the encoding.
