SuSE8.0: Unable to login after NIS+automounter started
Hi, I've had SuSE 8.0 installed for a few hours, not long enough for me to completely mess it up. After I used YaST2 to enable NIS and automounting, I cannot log into any of the NIS user accounts through the graphical console login. The symptom is that the screen goes blank for a second or two, and the login screen comes back, with no diagnostic that I can see. The only thing that is written in /var/log/messages is: Jun 25 15:42:03 girt automount[31478]: attempting to mount entry /users/nholtz Jun 25 15:42:12 girt kdm[31579]: pam_unix2: session started for user nholtz, service xdm Jun 25 15:42:13 girt kdm[31579]: pam_unix2: session finished for user nholtz, service xdm The automount line looks reasonable (and correct). I can login on the grpahics console to any of the local (non-NIS managed accounts, non automounted accounts). I can also login to the NIS/automounted accounts from a shell using su, or remotely using ssh, so all the nis/automounting mechanism seems to be working OK. Its just the console logins that are a problem. Its probably a PAM setting somewhere, but I've looked quite a bit and couldn't find anything. There are enough differences from my existing installation of about 10 Caldera servers, that I'm lost. Also couldn't find anything in SuSE support DB. I would be grateful for any help. I'm now pretty sure that this is just a conflict between kde2 and kde3 config files. I did move .kde and .kde2 out of the way, but that wasn't enough. Maybe its Desktop2 or soemthing. I'll try these later. On Tue, Jun 25, 2002 at 04:32:57PM -0400, Neal M. Holtz wrote:
