[opensuse-kde] openSUSE brand recognition and desktop theming
Dear KDE team, I'm writing to you on behalf of the openSUSE art team (oh this is so official, I like it). In recent month we have been continuously discussing the current state of openSUSE brand and brand recognition, and it brought us to realization that simply changing the KDE/GNOME default blue to green may no longer be enough. As many other distros are abandoning once popular *colouring book* practices and are switching to *distinct look and feel* instead, openSUSE which hasn't changed visually in years is beginning to feel *dated* to an non-expert eyes of our layman users. We (as in arts team) think there may be a need to change things around a bit and come up with our own distinct look and feel. Such effort would include: 1) complete branding guidelines 2) complete theming guidelines 3) desktop visual style, 4) desktop layout, 5) icon theme, 6) boot-to-desktop visual style (not necessarily in this order) None of this is naturally possible without a) community support and involvement; b) developers support and involvement Also none of this changes can possible happen overnight and will most likely take a few years to materialize. On this note - we are currently looking for a person able and willing to sit down with us and talk about technical aspect of KDE theming. So, if anyone is interested please contact me, or Andres Silva on IRC (#opensuse-artwork & ask for anditosan or it-s), or via e-mail.
