Normal users don't have this problem and shell-login for root still works... /opt/kde3/bin is not in your PATH. The problem should by solved by simply adding it :-)
This sounds good, but how to add this in PATH? I found out that echo PATH gives me the output: PATH echo $PATH tells me: /usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/bin:/usr/games:/opt/gnome/bin:/opt/kde3/ bin:/usr/lib/mit/bin:/usr/lib/mit/sbin So it is included in $PATH - but I have to include it in PATH -right? So which is the command? Thanks!!! Ivan

wrong. PATH is an environment variable which is addressed using the symbol '$'. Escaping, if you will. ie: echo PATH will do exactly that, it will echo, 'PATH' echo $PATH will echo the environment variable 'PATH' A short amount of time perusing the fine 'User Guide' or 'Start-Up' provided with your distro, especially the section about the command line or bash or Basics, would help you immensely. Two other excellent guides are the RUTE manual and the abs-guide (Advanced Bash Scripting Guide). They are freely available.
