[opensuse-kde] Wallpaper for new screen locking utility in KDE-4.10
Hi all, KDE-4.10 brings a new utility to lock the screen. It is a complete reimplementation to solve issues with reliability. Works fine for me so far, so I like it. That utility uses a background/wallpaper and I am unable to change it. Before the release it was written in numerous discussions that the utility will use the configured theme to decide about hte wallpaper. However this appears not to be the case. The wallpaper in use apepars to be independant of the configured desktop theme. So my question is: how/where can I configure the wallpaper/background used by that new lock screen utility in KDE-4.10? arkascha -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

IIRC, it only uses the desktop wallpaper from the theme if the theme specifies one. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: 6E1A4E79

And if the theme does not specify a wallpaper, how can I control it separately? Where can I tune it? I use different wallpapers on different occasions (activities). So a single wallpaper per theme is not what I want. And I certainly want my login and locking screens to use a different background compared to the "normal" modes. arkascha -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

What I do if I want a different wallpaper for screen locking, is change the metadata-desktop file of the theme. Hmm, this was working when I used upstream branding, but now with openSUSE branding packages it does not. (on 12.2 with KDF) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Found the culprit: it is following the setting in /etc/kde4/share/config/plasma-desktoprc Cor -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Found the culprit: it is following the setting in /etc/kde4/share/config/plasma-desktoprc Upstream is defining it's default wallpaper in the default plasma theme (Air), which can then be overriden in the file you mentioned (though, for the locker it needs to be a full path). Also, with both methods that will off course change default wallpaper for virtual desktops and activities. Bug report about custom wallpaper for the locker is here https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=312828 if you want to track the status.

As šumski correctly points out in his reply this changes the defaut wall paper which is not what I want.

Interesting, that location does not exist on my openSUSE-12.2 using KDR410. Instead I have a file /etc/kde4/kdm/backgroundrc which referes to a non- existing background jpg file. I'll try to play around with that one... arkascha -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

File should be at /usr/share/kde4/apps/desktoptheme/default/metadata.desktop But that still won't help you, as already indicated it would change overall default wallpaper. I'll try to play around with that one...

Hi, might be I missed something, but I have some issues with that. I was using Asciiaquarium as screen saver. After update to KDE 4.10 it doesn't work. OK, I changed Screen locker type to Simple locker. No, time out set in Screen lock settings doesn't work. I have to lock it manually. And short cut Ctrl + Alt + L doesn't work neither. So to lock the screen I have to go to launcher menu | Leave | Lock. For me, big draw back... Best regards, Vojtěch Dne Čt 14. února 2013 09:33:33, Christian Reiner napsal(a):

it doesn't work.
Plasma Workspaces 4.10 removed support for XScreensavers for security reasons. Screensavers need to be ported to the new architecture to work under PW 4.10 and beyond.
I changed Screen locker type to Simple locker. No, time out set in Screen lock settings doesn't work. I have to lock it manually. And short cut Ctrl + Alt + L doesn't work neither.
Check the keyboard shortcut module in System Settings / Desktop Settings. The screen locker is now handled by another component and in case of upgrades the old component entry has to be deleted manually. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

A terribe workaround would be to modify /usr/share/kde4/apps/ksmserver/screenlocker/org.kde.passworddialog/contents/ui/main.qml file. Changing - source: theme.wallpaperPathForSize(parent.width, parent.height) + source: "1920x1080.jpg" and adding picture named 1920x1080.jpg in /usr/share/kde4/apps/ksmserver/screenlocker/org.kde.passworddialog/contents/ui/ dir, would change the wallpaper for locker only, but this obviosly can't be used on distro level, and would be overwritten on upgrades. > arkascha -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
