Was kpackage dropped SuSE in 8.1?
Having a heck of a time installing multiple packages in 8.1 without revertind to using the rpm command. Was kpackage dropped with 8.1 as I can't seem to fine it on my system. Nev

Nev, Certainly things are different than they were on 8.0, but kpackage is still on mine. It is very different now when you click on a rpm file and I haven't figured out what is going on with it yet, but I have a kpackage selection to open the file with still. I cannot remember what main KDE package it is a part of, I believe the kdeadmin group, but mine also may be a leftover from my 8.0 to 8.1 update. Thanks for answering my question. I bought the 8.1 update but chose to do a complete install from the DVD so that may answer the difference between the two computers. Nev Patrick wrote:

I'm pretty sure it was left out in 8.1 due to the new YaST features. I did a clean 8.1 install as well and it is missing, as is Kappfinder, possibly some other things that I just never used. With a clean 8.1 install, clicking on an RPM in Konqueror causes the RPM info to show up in Konqueror, as well as a button to "Install package with YaST". Personally I find this more useful than KPackage. I used "Install package with YaST" to install an RPM that's not part of the SuSE DVD, and it found all the required dependencies and installed those from the DVD at the same time, without me having to find them myself. kappfinder is in kdebase3-extra -- opinions personal, facts suspect. http://home.arcor.de/36bit/samba.html
