[opensuse-kde] TW The kwin_x11 process keeps stopping causing the window decorations to disappear

Hi, Anyone else experiencing the window decorations disappearing just as the "kwin_x11" process stops? This is happening quite often in Tumbleweed. I this a normal to have a separate process just for just for the decorations. Cheers! I find it while using ksysguard. ksysguard sits on my panel for fast access. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Well, I prefer htop, but have started an instance and will allow it to run for a while and report if I see visual abnormalities. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Understood. I don't see this in Leap. Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

The thing with kwin_x11, you have to go into systemsettings5 and open a number of windows. Do some extra clicking for it to stop. You can't just sit and wait for it to stop :-) Cheers! It's the window manager. Obviously when it goes away, stuff like this happens. ;) -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: A29D259B

Hopefully this will be fixed soon. Is there another way of restarting it without continually logging out and logging in? -- Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Hmm, most of the other "window managers" have a "--replace" option. Try "kwin_x11 --help" in a terminal to get a short help, if there is such a option try to use it in a "kde run command" (Alt-F2) or (Win+R) That should start kwin_x11 in a way that it replaces the earlier, stopped version. - Yamaban. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I think it should be: kwin_x11 --replace &. Daniele. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Even worse, plasma shell often freezes on my system. Do you have desktop effects enabled? Someone suggested, the blur effect could cause plasma freezes. Below is a short shell script, I mapped this script to ctrl-alt-p and whenever plasma freezes, I press ctrl-alt-p and the desktop gets reset. Before pressing ctrl-alt-p to executy the script I sometimes need to wait a second, sometimes have to press twice. #!/bin/sh pkill -KILL plasmashell pkill -KILL kwin_x11 DISPLAY=:0 /usr/bin/plasmashell & DISPLAY=:0 kwin_x11 --replace & -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I'll try it out and report back. I'm using an Nvidia GeForce 8600 GTS card. Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
