I have another results in testing: plasma loads
fine, but kwin fails
in a funny way: it produces a bunch of absolutely same windows, saying
something like "Kwin is unstable and encountered several severe
problems sequentially. You can select another window manager" but
since kwin is the only window manager I have installed, the drop-down
menu consists of only one item. Attempt to close such messages just
produces more of them, so after my desktop have been filled with 25
identical error windows I gave up.
i haven't seen that one...
if you want debug it, take a look in the journal for more details. you can
also export KWIN_COMPOSE=N in bashrc/zshrc and see what happens if you try to
enable compositing during session (though may be other reasons also)....
Well, thanks for the hint. At least, xsession-errors also mentioned
that kwin had some troubles with compositing. However, disabling it in
either systemsettings or bashrc does not help. More interesting is
that new user does not have such problem with kwin. How does kwin in
kf5 get its settings?
