This repo is not hurting anyone if it exists for another year or even longer. The only thing I would do disable building and place README file that will tell: * that repo is disabled because there is no need for it * estimated time to be deleted, if space is so precious, and * explanation what is new solution with easy links, * instruction how to remove this repo from package management. Are you sure people look into the repo for a README file, even in case it fails?

In that cases helpers on IRC/ML/F will know and clear the mess, as they do now. Unlike plain users those helpers have habit of investigating URL and will spot README.

I'd say a blog on planetsuse, a post in the forums and mailinglist and be done with it.

Problem with articles placed away from software repos is that even when you know they exist it is not simple to find them and reference to user. A bit unclean directory structure on download.o.o is small price to all work that has to be done if README is missing.

actually, this point was a bit misleading: We'd like to ship minor updates to the KDE version the openSUSE release included. That means, openSUSE 12.2 will not get KDE4.9.x via an update (it was released with 4.8.4 and got an update to 4.8.5 already - the last one in the 4.8.x cycle) 12.3 can benefit from this change though... Overall I think the suggestion is good, but I have two potential issues:

1. what is the plan for openSUSE 11.4? Are we going to drop support for it at EOL?

2. Do the older repos really need to be enabled, or can they just be built once and then disabled? I mean, specifically:

KDE:Release:46 openSUSE 11.4 KDE:Release:47 openSUSE 11.4 KDE:Release:47 openSUSE 12.1 KDE:Release:48 openSUSE 12.1

If they are not being built against the update repo, then these should never change, right?

maybe for the old repos, the links for libqt4 etc should be fixed as well, I think currently, all KDE:* repos rebuild as soon as someone changes something in the Qt packages - I'm not sure whether you can fix an aggregate to a certain revision though... Alternatively replace the aggregate with a fixed links for these repos as this would significantly reduce OBS work!
