[opensuse-kde] geeko missing from kde start menu
Hi All, I am using Tumbleweed (but the same apply to Leap 42.1) and Plasma 5. The icon of KDE start menu (application menu) is K instead of Geeko. I did not tested with KDE 4 or Gnome. By tradition Geeko was there as part of openSUSE branding. Please bring Geeko back so it will be easy to identify that we are running openSUSE and not KDE/Gnome on whatever distro. I don't know how openSUSE marketing team missed this such long time... Also, Geeko is missing from Tumleweed wallpaper (it is present in Leap). i fixed this by myself by doing this: right-click on the start menu icon and select "settings for start menu" (or whatever it is called in english). then select "use own image" and select file:///usr/share/icons/Gilouche/48x48/places/distributor-logo.png -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | *DI Rainer Klier* Research & Development, Technical Sales Consultant Namirial GmbH -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
Hi Rainer, Thanks for your answer, but I also fixed this (using /usr/share/icons/oxygen/scalable/places/start-here-branding.svg). The problem is that on a clean install part of openSUSE traditional branding is lost. I just wanted to bring this to attention in case it was done by accident and not noticed. And start menu is a good place to put distro logo (other distro are using it too). Regards, Cristian ----- Original Message -----

AFAIR the switch to upstream branding was intentional, caused by lack of manpower on the openSUSE- KDE Team. -- Stefan Kunze -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

If that's the case then sign me up to help! I've also spent some time branding my own personal desktop with Geeko and the openSUSE logo. I would be more than happy to contribute where possible/needed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

In that case I would recommend for you to drop in the IRC Channel #opensuse-kde . I think the would love to hear it. I personally not in the Team . -- Stefan Kunze -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Hi All, Please note that I've also opened a bug for this (before Billy offered to help). Please see: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=985937 Regards, Cristian ----- Original Message -----

Well, it's not exactly a lack of manpower per se, but a lack of involved people that have the time and skills to bring the openSUSE Plasma theme up to date.

That would be great! Thanks in advance. The main change in Plasma5 is that the default application menu icon is taken from the Plasma theme, not the icon theme as before. The openSUSE one is outdated, and needs to be brought up to current Plasma5 standards. As there is a bug report already (to which you are subscribed), I think it's better to continue there though. I'll add an comment there with some pointers that should help you. If we have again an up-to-date (and maintained) openSUSE Plasma theme, we can of course discuss making that the default in openSUSE IMHO. Another (easy) option for "solving" this particular problem with the application menu icon would also be to modify our layout script that creates the standard panel though. But this would only change this for fresh user accounts (and fresh installations of course), and would not affect manually added application launchers, or changing the launcher via the "Alternatives" right-click menu option I think. Seems the geeko icon is back, in plasma 5.6.4 Unfortunately it broke openQA [16:57] <DimStar> plasma 5.6.4 openQA results are in: https:// openqa.opensuse.org/tests/221472#step/first_boot/1 - there is no more icons by default. Intentional? Could be a **BOLD** sticker note be included in .spec to warn maintainer that any changes in that branding stuff, need (mandatory) an update on openQA. No. When I submitted the change, Plasma was already at 5.6.95 (which never was submitted to Tumbleweed as it was a Beta). This must be 5.7.0 then...

The "no more icons" is about the missing folderview plasmoid on the desktop, IMHO. This is a completely different problem, unrelated, and absolutely not intended AFAIK. Btw, I noticed the same in a fresh Tumbleweed installation recently, which doesn't contain the menu icon change yet anyway.
