[opensuse-kde] KDE SC 4.5 Beta 2 on openSUSE 11.2
Hello list-mates, Can anyone confirm that KDE SC 4.5 Beta 2 is more responsive (of course more bug-fixes) than earlier versions, at least from Beta1? I'm using it on openSUSE 11.2 (ASUS EEEPC 1201T, with fglrx for its display driver), and can see it is more stable and more responsive than earlier. CMIIW. How to measure this so it can be good thing in marketing area for KDE and openSUSE? Best regards, -- Andi Sugandi. openSUSE will never officially ship KDE SC 4.5 anyway, so... And I'm not sure a method for reliably measuring "responsiveness" exists. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Well, that doesn't mean that it cannot be advertised as more responsive. Even if you cannot measure it, there are tons of things that possibly influence the UI responsiveness (and a couple that void the them, unfortunately). Some examples: - optimizations in KPixmapCache/KSharedDataCache - new, more efficient Qt version - Animations in Oxygen widget set (animations make a UI feel more responsive) - countless smaller optimizations all over the place I'd actually be surprised if KDE SC / Plasma wouldn't feel faster (at least compared to 4.4), given all the work that has been done on optimization. If you try the Free radeon driver, you'll likely notice that with this driver, it's even more responsive (that's my experience, comparing those two display drivers, at least).
