No, in Thunderbird is impossible that way. You have to disable word wrap. Install an addon called "Toggle Word Wrap". Then you get a menu option in "Options" to disable it. And then you can post an URL thus: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/09/05/flat_uis_designs_are_22_per_cent_slo... Of course, then long paragraphs also do not wrap. Another trick is to post the URL as a quoted text, which is suppose to not wrap:
