Start kaffeine from a konsole. Usually it should give some output that might even reveal the cause for it not coming up properly.

It doesn't speak a thing, even with --verbose set. In the meanwhile, the system had a strange start-up, coming up without any USB devices. After two restarts and removal of an unused USB cable, kaffeine came up without any problems. So, the problem seem to be solved, but others seem to come up soon, I guess.
