This is very simple. Every other operating system that i know of behaves like this (including KDE 3,5). People expect this to be reachable like this. And it are desktop settings and as such should be available via the properties of the desktop.
An example: My kids used to be able to change wallpapers like this for example, and they liked it very much. In the new KDE control centre even i have a hard time to find it. b.t.w. and not to add to your burden: they also expect that if you set a wallpaper via Firefox that it works - just like with the filepicker misery something where more cooperation between the desktop would be more than nice.
Maybe this does not seem important but it is a major reason that the other members of my family pick up the windows notebook to work with.
The wallpaper can be changed from the desktop, just not the resolution. Note that there is currently a thread on the kde-usability list on this very topic. I am in favour of adding a link to the Desktop properties dialogue to the resolution dialogue. If you'd like to see that implemented, then please subscribe to that list and mention it now!
In the old menu, I was able to add another application to Favourites just by right-clicking the app and choosing Add To Favorites. Now there are six.
It adds to a favorite submenu that i cannot order / maintain and again adds a continuously required mouseclick. This is not the ame as the list on top. But maybe my version of KDE is too old.
I had to file two separate issues on Kmenu and Lancelot on this. Ouff... -- Dotan Cohen http://bido.com http://what-is-what.com Please CC me if you want to be sure that I read your message.
