If you switch the combobox over to the kate part's toolbar, it will. I know, it's not exactly user- or partially-sighted-friendly.

It would be very neat if someone took the time to make these initial settings on a clean .kde4, then do a diff -ur to the original, then we could either supply a kdebase4-openSUSE-partiallysighted.rpm that installs the changed *uirc files systemwide , or some kind of kpersonalizer that runs once per-user could copy them to their .kde4.
