Hi there,
using openSUSE 13.1 with KDE 4.11.5 I can chose from several composit types, OpenGL 1.2, 2.0 and 3.1.
What is the difference chosing one or the other? Does some eye candy need higher OpenGL versions?
I have a nVidia 210mobile chipset running the nVidia closed source driver and I think it supports OpenGL up to 3.3. So far I see no difference in chosing one OpenGL composit type over the other.

Access the openGL.org website as each version offers more features. http://www.opengl.org/wiki/Extension The older openGL version specs were provided for users of older cards that support less features. It's hardware dependent. Your card supports the earlier version features right up to 3.3 due to the driver version. If you were to install a much older driver it will provide less features. Cheers!
