Hi!
After updating my SuSE 8.0 Pro (from KDE 3.0.0 to 3.0.4 and also all the
other recommended patches) via the YOU I'm facing a quite strange problem,
when I'm logged in as 'root'.
The panel bar (and only when logged in as 'root') doesn't show anymore
anything beside the first 5 symbols (counting from the left, i.e. Start
Programs, Browse YaST, Shell, Desktop). So the desktop-overview, the
programme windows, the lock-screen and log-out buttons, shortcuts to KOrganizer,
Klipper and Available Hardware and also the time/date are missing as well as all
the separators.
Even choosing the default settings in the Control Center --> Panel doesn't
help ...
What to do to fix this problem?

I've 2 users (A and B). For user A I can create new
entries in the KMail addressbook and save them. That's ok.
But I can't create any entry in the addressbook of user B.
More precisely, I create a new entry, but I'm not able to
save it. I get just a pop-up window saying something like
'cannot save addressbook' and the addressbook stays empty.
The difference between user A and B: I launched the empty
addressbook for user B and tried to import an address list.
The address list had a format error and the addressbook crashed
with - I think it was - a signal 11 error.
I compared the two ~/.kde/../kmailrc files, but didn't find any
significant difference, besides different mail directories and such things.
I read on the KMail pages that there are problems with importing lists.
Does anyone know how to set the addressbook of user B in an usable state?
Thanks for any help.
Thomas

Folks,
what's that with the KDE wallpaper. Why can I scroll down my wallpaper, seeing
the top of it on the bottom of my screen (hope some of you get what I'm
trying to say)?
This is annoying when saving files to the desktop, because them icons are
placed in the lower "invisible part" of the screen.

Hi folks,
anyone managed to get KPilot to talk to KOrganizer with Suse 8.1?
I have managed to get the conduits set up (pointing to the .ics file I'm using
with KOrganizer, I think), but when I do a sync, the data is transfered (or
atleast the the address data is) but I don't see anything in organizer.
Any ideas please.
Ta
Peter Nunn.
Hi suse-kde,
I just installed SuSe 8.1 Professional from scratch. I was running
7.1 and everything was fine.
Upon boot, kde does not start. The monitor has an orange light. I can
toggle to a text login.
I checked the archives and support database. It appears that the SuSe
install often uses higher refresh rates and/or frequencies then can be
supported. At this stage, do I just run sax2?
Thank you.

Hi!
I cannot get anti aliased fonts in kde3. I have enabled it in the
"control center" but it does not work. I've tried to set QT_XFT=1
and QT_XFT=true but nothing happens.
I use SuSE 8.0 and KDE 3.03.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Best regards,
Johan

Right, so I've spent the last few nights fighting with my speedtouch modem
(so darn close yet soooo far!!) and arguing with my nVidia drivers so far
with no luck!
I've deliberated over where my Kinternet icon has gone from the taskbar even
although when I launch Kinternet from the menu it says "it's already
running, check the icon on the taskbar stooopid!"...but the icon is *not*
there, definitely missing, absent, an ex-icon!!
Can anyone shed some light on this poor lost soul and tell me where the flip
my icon has gone! Oh, and don't worry about the rest of the stuff...I'll
find the appropriate list and post there!
Thanks in advance...Kev.

Hello list,
I'm running SuSE 8.1 with Nvidia GEForce 2 ultra (Nvidia drivers) and looking
for some tips from experienced users who have a stable system. My system
runs fine in the desktop, however when running games (racer, Wolfenstein) I
continue to get lockups. I have AGP 4X enabled in the bios however, I have
turned this setting off (2X) and it doesn't appear to help with stability.
There are numerous settings for the driver in the README file I'm just
looking for stability. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rodney
can I import pegasus address? & is what is the file name? I see I can
import message dirs.
While I have your attention...is there a way to organize Kmail
addressbook into separate sections; ie FRIENDS, FAMILY et cetera???
It's a PITA to find an address with 100 entries!
AND last, but not least..is there a way to make changes, such as moving
the colunms so one can read them and have them be permanent?

Hey Ben and all others interested in the kbear dilemma I was having
earlier. It seems that Ben's suggestions work ok afterall. Change the
preferences in kbear to not show the systray icon and remove it from
the Konq toolbar. Haven't seen it this morning after booting up, so
will assume it is gone for now.
Thanks Ben for the suggestions.
