Hello Group, I need to build a couple desktop machines for SuSE 8.X. What kind of AGP video card detects on setup and works well? Partial Install SUSE

With the borrowed set of SUSE 8.0 disks I was able to acheive only a partial install of SUSE Pro. DIsks 2,3,4 were unrecognisable this on two different systems. On my system Suse 7,2 did fully install. Now on LILO I find I have a new feature called Suse Safe Settings. Is this some form of alternate Kernal based on lowest common denominator hardware? I dont want to test it on either machine until I get a proper install. 8.1 install dumb questions...

Greetings, I just did a full install of 8.1 over a 7.x installation. It's a test bed environment so scrubbing the old and piling on the new wasn't a issue. It appears to have completed normally. Now, the manual tells me what CD #2 is, and I know what CD #1 is...but what the heck is on the rest of these CD's? I can't find anything in the manual to tell me what's on them or how to install it! TIA.. D.Rima

Unrequested changes of fontsizes

Hi, I just realised that I subscribed an english-spoken mailinglist, meaning that I have to explain my problem a 2nd time. I don't know why but sometimes KDE unrequested changes the sizes of my fonts. I usually use size 10, but sometimes and especially after some difficulties the size is just 8. And so I open the controllcenter - change size to 12 (it still shows 10) - close the controllcenter - shut down the PC - restart the PC - now the size is 12 - open the controllcenter - change size back to 10 - close it. I really don't know why it happens. In /.kderc nothing changed. Sounds the problem familiar to someone? Frank

Someone advised me to install the qt-devel-xxx package, as it's needed in order to achieve a compilable application. But the problem didn't disappear, no matter what version of qt (in rpm) I download from SuSE; so I downloaded the sources (.tar.gz) from Trolltech's site, followed the instructions to install, and now it works.... it's not the first time SuSE's packages fails (at last, in my case), so take it in care for future situations with other apps and environments... By the way, go to kde's site and to install info. You have to pass some special ./configure options in order to get a correct qt version for kde, and there you can find what are the correct ones. If I remember correctly, these are --no-g++-exception, --no-stl, and --thread, I guess.... Qt problems..

Hello Friends - System stuff: SuSE 8.1, KDE 3.0.3, Qt 3.05 (both KDE and Qt are the original versions from the SuSE install). Problem: Every time I try to compile a program that requires Qt libraries, I get the following error message: checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.0.3) (library qt-mt) not found. Please check your installation! For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log. Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support! Now, I've looked around quite a bit for a solution to this; it seems that Qt MUST be installed with thread support, as KDE wouldn't be running without it. HI I am trying to run ogle here and my suse 7.1 is looking for an shared lib called libxml2.so.2 which my system doesnt have i have an version here that is libxml1.so.1 and i cant seem to find the one i need does anyone know where i can find libxml2.so.2 for suse 7.1 and will that libxml2.so.2 work on my system thanks Bob
