[opensuse-kde3] How do I adjust length of filter window in KDEPIM 3.5.10?

I'm using Opensuse 11.1 (with evergreen) and KDE 3.5's version of KDEPIM (3.5.10). The length of the window showing which filter I have selected in kaddressbook's search toolbar is way too short. I want to see the complete name of the filter I have selected, not just the beginning of it. How can I adjust this window? (I can find columnwidths in .kde/share/config/kaddressbookrc, but no explanation of how they work) -- Bob Smits <bob@rsmits.ca> Poverty is the worst form of violence Mohandas Gandhi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

I'm using Opensuse 12.1 with the openSUSE KDE 3.5.10. When loading a CD or DVD, no Device Notifier pops up. Furthermore, VLC/Kaffeine are unable to access the discs. (No Device Notifer problem using KDE4.) What is likely to be needed to get CD/DVD access working? In openSUSE 12.1, how does one use that URL to download/install that HAL package? You already have it installed. Go to Yast system services and enable the hald service.

If device notifier does not work, that means he has kdebase3 already installed from hal-enabled repo and not from the official one.
And you have to start the hal-daemon at startup.
or install kdebase3 from the official repo.

I installed KDE3 from: http://en.opensuse.org/KDE3 The Device Notifier did not appear. I tried installing the hal package from YaST2's KDE3 repository, and started it. The Device Notifier still did not appear. Hence my earlier question: How to install the HAL from: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3:/HAL- enabled/openSUSE_12.1/ Regards to all, -- /\/\aurice -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

Look in your system monitor's task list and see if there is "devmon-automounter" process.
Hence my earlier question: How to install the HAL from:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3:/HAL- enabled/openSUSE_12.1/
Add the repo and install... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

I don't know where to find "system monitor's task list", so looked in YaST2's 'System Services (Runlevel): Services' list, but could see no entry for anything like "devmon-automounter".
Hence my earlier question: How to install the HAL from:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE3:/HAL- enabled/openSUSE_12.1/

Added that repo in YaST2, then looked at what's in that repo: - No sign of 'hal'. - Most entries are ticked (presumably meaning 'already installed'). - The ones not ticked are: - kdebase3-devel - kdebase3-ksysguardd which I assume I don't need. So what am I supposed to install? By the way, when I said earlier that no Device Notifier appeared, that was in the Subject context of 'optical storage media' (i,.e. CDs, DVDs). If I load a USB stick, for example, a Device Notifier *does* pop up. The question is: Why no device Notifier for CD/DVDs? Incidentally, what entry shouild there be in /etc/fstab for CD/DVD drives? (I have 2 DVD writers, for family video purposes.) Suggestions much appreciated... In that case you do not have to install anything or enable services. You are either inserting a bad disc (or of wrong format), or you disabled the popup for certain media types in konqueror's preferences. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

Konqueror?! How does one disable/enable the Device Notifeir within Konqueror? -- /\/\aurice -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

Does the disk have a filesystem? The popup will appear only if the disk has mountable file system.

I meant Control Center of course. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

The data CD is actually a Kubuntu 9.04 LiveCD K3B can read that info from the CD, but says it can't mount it.

Control Center? What is the openSUSE function known as? YaST2? KDE3 Personal settings? How to enable/disable Device Notifier in openSUSE 12.1? Also, would still like to know what 'CD/DVD' entry (if any) there should be in /etc/fstab. -- /\/\aurice -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

Aside from the absence of a Device Notifier with CD/DVDs, here is what happens with the 3 types: - Audio CD: If I start VLC, it finds the CD and plays it. - Data CD: If I start K3B, it shows the title on the CD, but then says: "K3B is unable to mount <title>" - Video DVD (family video): - If I start VLC, it appears to briefly read from the disc, but then just sits there doing (or saying) nothing. - If I start Kaffeine, it says: "Warning: This version of Xine lacks support for playing DVD discs for legal reasons." (The same CD/DVDs play normally in the same drive over on Mandriva 2010.2 - including DVD menu.) You need Xine (at least "libxine1") from the Packman repository (http://packman.links2linux.de/) to play DVD. On 07.04.2012 20:58, Maurice wrote:

You need libxine1 JUST from Packman, not from official OpenSUSE repository! The DVD playing function is depreciated in the OpenSUSE libxine1. Just go to the Packman site, find "xine" and install it with 1-click instal. On 07.04.2012 21:53, Maurice wrote:
