Hello SuSE/KDE 3 people Been quite a while since I have posted here. I am running 152 now for a couple of weeks. Every seems to be working well except for media n manager and I get that message whenever KDE starts up.I need it badly so I can access material on my flash drives. I checked in kcontrol and is marked to start but states it is not running. . hope that one of you kind souls can help ne solve this problem. Bob, Are you saying when you plug a usb in it is not auto-mounted and shown under konqueror [System tab] Storage Media? I've started a 15.2 install, but have had issues with VirtualBox 5.2 branch due to the precompiled 6.x drivers provided with 15.2. I'll check it out as soon as I can. If you have a repeatable case where there is no usb mounted, the go ahead and author a bug report. Hopefully somebody here can confirm the problem. -- David C. Hello everybody! I can confirm this case for my 15.1 installations and a tumbleweed in a VirtusalBox 6.1. On every installation i got the message "media manager not running". I think it came from an update some weeks ago and there is something wrong with the updated file "/opt/kde3/lib64/kde3/kded_mediamanager.so" (kdebase3). I got a bad solution with an older version out of a backup, but it works. Hello Uwe Thaler Thanks so much for your wonderful solution. I also copied that file from anolder distro and installed it in 15.2. mediamanager wurks fine now. Thanks again. If anybody else has this problem I can e-mail them rhe file. Needs to be installed as root. Hi David Thanks for the quick reply. No, I mean that media manager does not start when KDE starts up. I get a message on my opening screen that media manager is not running. A check in Kcontrol verifies this. Bob Stia -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

I don't know if it is related, but I am seeing a breakage in KDE3 beginning with kdelibs3 build 216.1 (the text preview - Embedded Advanced Text Editor (katepart)) just disappeared from KDE3 effecting all releases 15.0 - 15.2 (and probably tumbleweed) I have filed a bug: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1172692 As for the VirtualBox 5.2 problem on 15.2, I solved that by building the guest additions from the 5.2 iso, e.g. to build the guest addition modules from the 5.2 branch iso allowing X to start on 15.2: zypper rm the VirtualBox-guest modules for 6.1, On your host, attach the virtualboxguestadditions.iso to your cd drive On the guest mount /dev/sr0 /mnt then as root (with the kernel-source installed [and gcc and perl]) /mnt/VBoxLinuxAdditions.run once the 5.2 kernel modules are built, reboot and you are good to go. -- David C. I just upgraded host hp945's 15.2, last updated nearly 3 months ago. I put in a USB stick and got the new medium detected popup just like I normally get in 15.1 on my 24/7 box. Nothing about removable media appeared on Kicker until I answered yes. Then I got two USB icons and two open Konq window indications, unlike in 15.1's bad behavior, where nothing appears except the open Konq window indication. I was unable to locate any bug report about these subjects for either 15.1 or 15.2. Unlike with Plasma in TW, selecting shutdown from the KDM3 greeter works as expected. :-) -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. Team OS/2 ** Reg. We may need to compare kdmrc files then. Originally shutdown from kde on 15.2 prompts for root password to be entered. I don't know what I did, but now I'm just dumped to a terminal (I login and then poweroff) If you can shutdown without a password prompt, lets compare under the thread you started: [opensuse-kde3] root permission needed to shut down -- David C.
