Hello, An alfa version of media manager based in udisks2 is available: http://www.thel.ro/kde3/media.tar.bz2 Is not completely yet, but is able to detect and mount storage devices. At this moment recognize SD cards and pendrives. I can't test yet cdrom media because I'm using a Gentoo with custom kernel, which seems to not send udev events when a cdrom is inserted, I have no idea why (maybe someone can tell me what I miss). PS It needs a patched qt3-dbus, because the original one have a bug which de-marshalling incorectly arrays of objectpath. I will publish the patch soon on github. -- Serghei -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

How to get this patch? I did the following: git clone git://github.com/serghei/kde3-kdelibs.git cd kde3-kdelibs git format-patch 140659d46b44b18c311d8d6f0cb7c96cbc43c6b5 Still no patch is visible... For me optical disks work well so I suppose you failed to update the package or your disks are corrupted. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

But earlier you commented that I *did* have the updated package (as there was no sign of that line "usage = filesystem" in udisks- glue.conf).
or your disks are corrupted. As I said earlier, the disks work perfectly under Mandriva 2010.2.
I will check the polling situation as suggested by Serghei. Regards, -- /\/\aurice -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

This will not help you as you have installed non-HAL-enabled packages. If you want hal-enabled, install them from repository KDE:KDE3:HAL-enabled. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

After all that has been said by others in here I am not now sure *which* of the two I want! However, I shall - as you suggest - try replacing the system files by those in hal-enabled, and see what happens... OK - have done that. Now, I do get a Device Notifier for DVD and data CD. But an audio CD brings up a small window "Source: Examining file progress", then some kind of copy starts from sr0 to a temporary file, then a failure: "File/folder / does not exist"! (USB flash drive gives Device Notifier OK.) Mmm. Seems the KDE3 handling of optical device items is still in a mess. Perhaps need to await Serghei's new version of device handler... No. It is either your disk is a mess or you added something wrong in fstab. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

This is a replacement for current system (more precisely, a replacement for HAL backend). HAL is deprecated and sooner or later will not working anymore on modern system.
It's optical disks that are not handled.
Actually current media manager seems to handle optical media too, I guess your problem is related to HAL daemon (if I correct remember, HAL uses polling for detecting media changes - so check if polling is enabled).

Every time I select a .pdf file the system puts me into Konqueror. Even after going into Control Centre/KDE Components/File Associations/ application/pdf and promoting Acrobat Reader to the top (then selecting Apply and logout/login, I still get Konqueror started when selecting a .pdf file. What does one have to do to get Acrobat Reader (acroread) to be used, instead of Konqueror? click on the kde3 icon in the panel, click on Personal settings, click on file association, click on the illustrator icon, move the app you want first to the top of the list. This assumes that adobe is already nstalled and is visible to the system. good luck, d. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org

ok, this is going back a bit, but i have a case that the media notifier seems to identify a new usb device, but then it fails to mount it. That's in suse 12.1 and anything 12.2 to date, with kde3. anything (i have tried 11.4 qnd 11.1) before 12.1 seems to not have the mounting problem. but, from 12.1 on, the mount becomes recursive on the first identification: if in conqueror, we see a /media/camera/, subsequent clicking on it only becomes /media/camera/camera, /media/camera/camera/camera/camera etc. the camerais a fujifilm 500 and suse 11.1 and 11.4 can easily read it, copy it and erase it, alas, 12.1 and 12.2 to date can not even mount it, in kde3 that is... d. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde3+owner@opensuse.org
