[heroes] Migrating mailing lists
Hi, We are currently planning out the migration from mlmmj to mailman 3. We have been discussing moving lists over from opensuse-$list@opensuse.org to $list@lists.opensuse.org (and potentially allowing subprojects to use their own domains), for both collision and aesthetic reasons. We would like to hear your input. Thanks in advance, LCP [Stasiek] https://lcp.world -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org

Hi As a nomail subscriber and user of gmane for list messages, this would likely impact the use of this nntp service... Or will there be some sort of linking to point the old to the new? -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° SUSE Knowledge Partner (Linux Counter #276890) Tumbleweed 20200802 | GNOME Shell 3.36.4 | 5.7.11-1-default Intel DQ77MK MB | Xeon E3-1245 V2 X8 @ 3.40 GHz | Intel/Nvidia up 1 day 21:28, 2 users, load average: 0.52, 0.49, 0.39 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org

From my experience, we'd probably either need to just set the lists up again, or contact Lars (the operator of gmane - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gmane or gmane.io) to see if the e-mail addresses can be changed so the history can be preserved.
Lars is pretty responsive to comments on his blog IME. -- Jim Henderson Please keep on-topic replies on the list so everyone benefits -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org

For the benefit of the doubt, the following is my personal opinion. I applaud shortening the local part of the mail address, i.e., $list instead of $something-$list or $list-$something. I prefer only having opensuse appear once as part of the full address. Having used both @$domain and @lists.$domain in many contexts and projects over the past decade or two, I prefer the former, that is, $list@$domain over $list@lists.$domain. As commented on IRC, I'm looking forward to adjusting procmail :-) (seriously, I'm fine with the idea. If I can help, tell me) Note: instead of migrating test@o.o, create new test@lists.opensuse.org. Destroy the former when all is done. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

test@o.o is an excellent way to test migrating, so I think I might pass on destroying it ;) LCP [Stasiek] https://lcp.world -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org

Oops. Meant opensuse-test@o.o -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Is mailman 3 different?
Mailman2 was never that bad, honestly. Projects of comparable sizes to ours have been using it for years - I wrote a list at some point, can't find it though. RAM is also not exactly a major issue anymore. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (22.8°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org
