[heroes] Re: 2018 Sponsorship
Hi Benny, From the list I sent you before, I believe this was the bullet point: * Mirror servers around the world, that have ~20TB capacity and can be pushed via rsync (additional ssh access might be good for initial setup and debugging) It shouldn't take long to come up with what the figure would be. Lars might even be able to give you what the cost estimate would equate to. As soon as we get the figure, I'll let you know. v/r Doug On 01/25/2018 10:36 PM, benny Vasquez wrote:
Hey there!
Our budget is a little tighter than I was hoping this year, but I definitely want to do something. We had talked about us hosting a new server for the team in our datacenter, potentially also building it. Do you think we can get the ball rolling on gathering those details, and nailing down a dollar amount? I'd love to take that request up the chain to see what we can do!

Hi Doug While I am thankful that you still have me in mind regarding infrastructure topics, please leave me out of any conversation regarding openSUSE. The Heroes or Richard will tell you who takes care about this from now on. Thanks in advance, Lars On Fri, 26 Jan 2018 09:55:35 +0100 ddemaio <ddemaio@suse.de> wrote:

Thank you Lars. I'll keep that in mind. Could someone from the heroes team send me what a ~20TB capacity server for rsync might costs. I'd like to give cpanel an estimate for their sponsorship might equate to. Including Christian and Rudy in case he might have an idea for this as well. v/r Doug On 01/26/2018 10:39 AM, Lars Vogdt wrote:

The actual hardware isn't overly expensive - a 1U rackserver with a couple of harddrives. EUR1000 maybe. Thomas Krenn RI1102. I guess someone will have to sponsor installation, maintenance and the running costs - rackspace, electricity, uplink? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.2°C) openSUSE mailing list admin -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org

^^ this is not correctly the truth, you cannot get such a server for 1k Euro in a "reliable quality" Please standby, as I will work on a detailed explanation of what is needed for a mirroring server - as vserver or hardware. It all depends on what is being asked - the requirements were not exactly detailed. Our openSUSE mirror is a very similar 1U box, just much older. Dual core 2.0GHz, 4Gb RAM, 3TB RAID1. It serves about 100Gb/day on average, peaks at up to 250Gb/day. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.2°C) ENIDAN Technologies GmbH, Bergstrasse 170, CH-8704 Herrliberg, Switzerland -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org

In particular, Italy and Spain could do with some mirrors. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (6.9°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org
