Christian has tested the wiki setup and found dependencies with the server hermes. There is a hermes extensio which is broken (probably since years). It sends out only empty emails. @Theo: Can you support us? ;-)
yes, I'll grant you access to the system but: reading the meeting log and minutes, I understand that hermes integration on wiki is broken,
Right. See https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/12734 for a mail hermes sent me ;-)
and hermes is deprecated.
Yes - at least that's what I've heard. BTW: Klaas is willing to do some work on hermes if someone tells him where help is needed. Just FYI in case I heard something wrong or the decision gets reverted ;-)
So my suggestion would be to work on your testing instance on getting rid of hermes,
That's the easy part - I just need to stop loading the hermes extension.
and create a local notification system. It is totally not worth to restore this functionality imho.
Handling the notifications using mediawiki's own features is easy (and probably what people already use). The most important things here are a) "watching" pages, which means you'll get mail notifications when someone changes them and b) the RSS feed for Special:Recentchanges. The interesting question is if someone is still using Hermes to receive wiki notifications. I'd guess it's unlikely (because it only sends out nearly-empty mails for wiki changes), but maybe someone still has a usecase for it. I'm not too keen on fixing the hermes integration, but I still want to know if someone uses it - and if yes, it's probably a good idea to tell those people how to migrate to mediawiki's own notifications. So the TL;DR version of this mail is: Can you please check if someone is using hermes notifications for the wiki, and report back? Regards, Christian Boltz --
