[opensuse-haskell] GHC 8.2.1 is out
Hi folks, GHC version 8.2.1 has been released: https://www.haskell.org/ghc/download_ghc_8_2_1.html I suppose it will take 2-3 months until Stackage creates LTS-9.0, so we're in no hurry to update our package set. It would be nice, however, to have the compiler available in https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/devel:languages:haskell:lts:next/ghc ..., because that is the first release to ship with Cabal 2.x and it's going to be interesting to see what effect that'll have on our build system. Is anyone working in an updated spec file for that version? ptrommer, maybe? Hi *, GHC 8.2.1 is in the works. I prepared openSUSE binary distributions in devel:languages:haskell:bootstrap. Currently, I am working on ghc in home:ptrommler:branches:devel:langugaes:haskell:compiler and I expect to be done sometime today. I will then submit to devel:languages:haskell:compiler and to devel:languages:haskell:lts:next for Peter and other intrepid users to check out the new compiler. We will have new support for arm7l and registerised (faster) support through LLVM for aarch64. I dropped support for s390 and ppc. Best, Peter

Hi Peter,

well, that worked out nicely. Almost 1,000 LTS-8 builds succeeded out of the box with the new compiler: https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/devel:languages:haskell:lts:next I hear stackage.org is about to switch their Nightly package set to the new version and start bugging upstream authors about issues. We can probably follow Nightly for the time being -- maybe with a limited set of platforms? Anyhow, this is looking very promising.
