[opensuse-gnome] Joining the volunteers :-)
Hi all, This is slightly off-topic, but as it has an impact for the team, I feel it's important to share this. I'm leaving the Boosters team and moving to another team inside SUSE, where I won't be working on something directly related to openSUSE (I'll probably blog about what I'll be doing at some point, give me some time :-)). This has some immediate side-effect: I'm now a purely community player for openSUSE too! No, you won't get rid of me, sorry :-) This obviously means I will have less time for openSUSE in general, and the GNOME team more specifically. But I don't think this is going to be much of an issue. In the past 1-2 years, we've managed to build a strong team. Of course, I've been doing a lot, but so have been Dominique, Bjørn, Malcolm, Atri and many others (sorry, I'm not even trying to name everyone, I'd forget too many people)! We've also been doing several steps to make sure we really work as a team: we reorganized our workflow to allow more reviews of all changes going in, we've created a gnome-maintainers group on OBS to share the super-powers, etc. I've been away a few times for several weeks in the past year, and the team did an amazing job without me. It was no surprise to me, and that should be enough to kill any doubts people might have about the GNOME team! It turns out that this is also happening at a point in time where GNOME is rather solid in Factory, and where 12.2 is delayed for a few months. This means we even have some quiet time to discuss other ways we can reorganize the team for 12.3, if we feel a need for it. I've no specific thing in minds, except maybe giving review powers to even more people? I'll probably be a bit less active than I'd like in the next few weeks, as I have a lot to learn and discover right now. But I'll come back and contribute more again soon after :-) And I'm still around on irc anyway, willing to answer questions, help people and chit-chat! Thanks for letting us all know!

It's sad on one hand to see less of you.. on the other hand: All the best for you Vincent!

Knowing that we can always fall back on you is a good thing. YOU did do a lot of good stuff, which empowered us to do what we do (osc collab!) Thanks for all that! And thanks for the ever motivational speeches of yours!

More reviewers are surely needed; already in the past I invited Darix to help out once in a while. His experience in packaging has always given good hints and tricks. We'll expand that further in our own team of course!

No doubt :) you will miss us anyway and run back to us... We'll receive you with open arms! (as we do any other 'guest')

Indeed, we have a rather solid GNOME experience in Factory. Let's make sure to keep this level up. Testers and good bug reporters, as well as bug fixers, are welcome :)

Hi Vincent Congratulations and all the best on the new direction within SUSE (maybe we will cross paths as part of the SUSE Knowledge partners program?) I must admit I've been slacking off as well, summer holiday time for our 5year old... this week it's soccer camp... plus keeping him occupied when he's not outside playing.... Also good to hear you will still be lurking :) -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 (x86_64) Kernel 3.0.31-0.9-default up 15:31, 2 users, load average: 1.05, 0.90, 0.91 GPU GeForce 8600 GTS Silent - Driver Version: 302.11 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+owner@opensuse.org

I still vividly remember the day when you first got hired and joined us on IRC. That's a few years ago now. Things are definitely different from the original days when myself, I joined IRC. Though I'm not anywhere nearly as active as I was in the early days here, I've enjoyed watching from the sidelines as the team evolved under your leadership to one of community empowerment. You've achieved what many struggle to do. And I'm personally thankful to have also met you in person over the years and get to know the strong quiet leadership skills you have. You've made openSUSE GNOME team into a powerhouse in its own right. We may all be a bit weathered over the years, but we come out victorious, wiser, and stronger. And you're a big part of that. For that, I join the rest of the community in thanking you for your contributions to date, as well as the contributions you'll continue to make in the future. All the very best on your new role. Thank you a lot for your efforts in running openSUSE GNOME for so long. I personally learned a lot about engaging people in a community from you :-) Sankar On Wed, Jun 20, 2012 at 10:52 PM, Vincent Untz <vuntz@opensuse.org> wrote:

Thanks a lot, Vincent, for everything you have done, not least for mentoring (along with Dominique, of course) new contributors into the openSUSE GNOME fold. Personally, I still think about and marvel at how easy and exciting you made contributing to openSUSE for me when I started. I really can't thank you enough!
