To answer my own question, after a long time searching, its in /usr/bin/gnome which is a hacked up wrapper for gnome-session.

Yeah, this is rather hackish right now. I'm working on a feature to let Nautilus use desktop icons defined by the sysadmin:

I.e. this will be better for openSUSE 11.1 :)
