[opensuse-gnome] Gnome Shell Theme
I don't know if this should go out to opensuse-factory as well, but I would like to make a suggestion about 12.1 coming out with Gnome 3. We should change the Gnome Shell theme to something more modern than our current Sonar one. I think the font is too rough and the icons are not too old-fashioned. We could use Gnome Shell's default theme or take a look at some of the themes below[1] or even use a Gnome 2 themes since they should all work[2]. This is only a suggestion from me since I personally don't know what the community as a whole thinks. IIRC there was a request to use the upstream theme from GNOME for all distros and we will very likely be adhering to it. Sankar -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Yeah. That needs to be discussed, but so far, that's the plan :-) Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-gnome+help@opensuse.org

Hi all, In case I'm not present, I do believe we should help GNOME in that campaign, though I have some remarks: 1. Such decision should be only considered for the 1st release, and shouldn't bind us for longer than that. 2. As we understand GNOME Project request and consider the importance of this action to the future of GNOME, they should also understand that as a downstreamer we have really no interest in having our GNOME looking the same as Fedora or others. They should be sensitive to the fact that we need to keep some differentiation to our competitors. 3. It should be clear if this is for the GNOME3 repository available for 11.4 or if they pretend us to have in 3.2 (openSUSE 11.2), which I would still consider and find one or two benefits in doing it for 11.2: pleasing GNOME and continue the good relation with them, expanding the splash impact... wait and see what will happen from the community, looking towards fan work, rework themes, etc. In short... for GNOME3 repo on 11.4 and to GNOME3.2 to openSUSE 12.1, I think we should support GNOME on this, but we should make a strong stand that this won't be a binding long term decision as it might become prejudicial to openSUSE... Since we a bit more than 6 months to next release, we will have time to analyse our community feedback towards this, and then we can make a clear judgement for 12.1. We also be wise not to trigger strange side-effects like happened in Fedora, though I think some people were too dramatic. So, lets help GNOME Project on this one? They will love it, and I guess our community will understand it as well. NM

I agree. I didn't know Gnome asked everyone to use the default theme for now. It shouldn't be an issue since it is quite nice :) I'm not a fan of Sonar so I'm happy to hear we will probably move to the default Gnome Shell theme.
