Feature changed by: Andreas Jaeger (a_jaeger) Feature #308955, revision 15 Title: Thunderbird KDE integration openSUSE-11.3: Rejected by Andreas Jaeger (a_jaeger) reject date: 2010-11-04 14:50:11 reject reason: not done. Priority Requester: Important openSUSE-11.4: Rejected by Will Stephenson (wstephenson) reject reason: Not done in time for 11.4 Priority Requester: Important - openSUSE Distribution: Evaluation by engineering manager + openSUSE Distribution: Done Priority Requester: Desirable Requested by: Peter Gumbrell (gumb) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: Would be great if the same sort of KDE integration could be applied to Thunderbird as with Firefox and OpenOffice. The interface in general with TB3 on openSUSE 11.2 actually looks fine using the default theme, but KDE file and helper application dialogs would be a big improvement. Even better if this could be included with the 4.3.5 online update or the possible openSUSE 11.2 KDE4.4 respin that I've heard rumours of. Use Case: Take my parents, using a KDE setup but with Firefox and Thunderbird as the two main non-KDE apps installed, for whom the existing GTK file dialogs completely throw them every time they need to pick a file attachment, or to open/save attachments sent to them. It is the only place on their system where they encounter non-KDE dialogs and they are confused. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: I see Thunderbird and GIMP as the two other popular, key apps having a large cross-desktop userbase that could do with better KDE integration. Discussion: #1: Andreas Jaeger (a_jaeger) (2011-07-26 11:40:13) If anybody likes to work on this, go ahead. #2: Philippe Baril Lecavalier (p_barill) (2012-07-30 02:56:35) Change the GTK file dialogs with KDE dialogs? I vote for that! With the furious version scheme of Firefox/Thunderbird, this would have to be done quite regularly though. Note that Mozilla recently abandoned future developments for Thunderbird. But that's not a problem. I'm gonna keep using it for a couple more years! #3: Peter Gumbrell (gumb) (2012-07-30 13:30:17) (reply to #2) Mozilla hasn't abandoned Thunderbird entirely, just given it a lower priority and effectively committed itself to security updates and bugfixes only, short of external community members stepping up to contribute. I almost marked this feature as Done as the KDE file dialogs were implemented quite a while ago, but there's one outstanding issue/bug, whereby there is a mix of GTK/KDE dialogs cropping up.
